I opted out of this little party last week because 1) We had lots in the fridge to eat and 2) There really wasn't a ton in the garden to harvest! But, no worries, I'm back now ;-) Still inching towards my self-created goal of meeting the 200 pound mark this year...but just barely! With 4 more Mondays to go, I'm not so sure anymore that I'll get there. Which is OK, really, since I chose 200 as an arbitrary number at the height of summer when I was feeling very positive about the volume of food coming out of the garden.
Things are growing , they're just growing very slowly.
This week we harvested some greens. I know, I know, not very exciting, but hey, it's still a harvest, right?! I would have harvested more if there weren't a creature in one of the wagons munching away on my beautiful kale. I'm thinking it's a mouse. He may be hungry, but he's officially on my shit list now.
Something's been munching on my kale!
Mixed lettuce from one of the exposed beds.
It freezes every night and then perks up throughout the day :-)
Love, on a leaf of lettuce. Hope in the garden.
Weeks like the last few, when the days are crisp and the nights are just cold, when there's almost nothing coming out of the garden, I am very grateful for the winter squash in the pantry and the frozen beans in the garage.
This weeks totals:
Kale = 1 ounce
Spinach = 1 ounce
Lettuce = 1 ounces
TOTAL OF 3 ounces this week.
Harvest Monday is hosted by Daphne at daphnesdandelions.
